Description of MLA-30 Long Range Directional Loop Antenna: Amplify Signals for RTL SDR Radio Receivers and Radio Stations

The MLA-30 loop antenna is a popular broadband antenna, great for short-wave listeners (SWL) and amateur radio enthusiasts (HAM) to enjoy medium-wave and short-wave in the city with limited space such as balconies, rooftops, etc. This portable short-wave indoor Loop antenna is a simple suite, including all necessary kit. Modular design, simple and easy to install on balconies, rooftops, and other limited space. Excellent directionality can help you reduce noise and improve signal-to-noise ratio; You could simply change the antenna's facing direction so that the dummy point of the antenna is aligned with the interfering signal to minimize specific near-field interference to achieve the best result. Up to 30 dB noise suppression compared to Longline antenna. It can dig out weak signals that are otherwise overwhelmed by noise. 8-shaped patterning provides deep dummy points to further reduce interference. Do not connect with the transmitter or it will damage the preamplifier. The operating current of this device is only about 70mA, when it is not connected to the antenna, it can even reach as low as 5mA. Some power bank will assume that the device has been fully charged thus cut off the power. If that's the case ,please try power it from Wall socket.

Great magnetic loop for the price.

Excellent antenna. I use this antenna to listen to CW/SSB on 40 meters. I can adjust to signals that are barely visible in the spectrum. Combined with 12-bit SDR, this antenna outperforms my 60ft dipole.

  • Good product for the price
Cons

worth your money.

I am very happy with this active antenna, I connected it to the Kenwood R5000 receiver. It's very sensitive, discreet, and easy to plug in - if you have the right cable adapter. It uses this new mini coax cable which requires a special adapter which you will never find locally but is available from Revain.

Pros
  • Waiting
Cons
  • Almost everything is ok

My house is full of RFI. I usually have to set up a portable antenna outside to hear anything. With the MLA taped to the rear window (about 4ft off the ground) I was finally able to use SWL comfortably: I was finally able to hear local AM stations and some SW stations. Using Airspy HF+ Discovery. After trying several different antennas over the past year, this one finally picked up radio waves.

Pros
  • Audio and video accessories
Cons
  • Very expensive

Works great with slight modifications

This antenna is for receive only. You cannot go there. So if you want to experiment while listening to SDR radio, this antenna is for you. I found that the loop of wire that came with the antenna was flimsy and didn't hold in a round shape. He wanted to be oval rather than round. A thicker wire would solve this problem. However, I modified the loop with a baby hoop with #12 AWG THHN wire inside and that fixed the problem. I noticed a significant improvement in reception. So in summary, with the

Excellent AM/HF Spectrum Antenna

It was quite difficult to install this flexible thing on a PVC pipe. I cut a few grooves in the end of the tube with a hacksaw to hold the free end, figured out where to mount the balun, then just hung it in my garage to try it out. It was a good night because the container picked up Japan, Australia, China and some fading stuff from South America. There's all sorts of metal where I hung it, and it's a really noisy environment, but wow, it works great. I think it's a 70mA antenna, but the cool…
