Good general purpose barrel connector for RJ45 Cat5/Cat6 cable.

This is a simple plastic plug that fits into a keyed wall plate and allows an RJ45 plug to be connected on either side. It is more versatile than the traditional barrel connector as it can be used as a barrel connector with or without a keystone wall plate. This means I can wear just one piece and use it for both applications.

Pros
  • Allows front and rear RJ45 cables
Cons
  • Insecure

Looks like it will fail in a few years

I've had at least 4 crashes in the last 10 years. Not sure why they fail, but they tend to open on pins 3-6 when they fail (see photo). They suddenly failed after being operated on and not touched for years. Strange. I would try a different brand. Monoprice is usually pretty good, but not for them. Update: I had at least 6-10 errors out of about 30 installed. They always fail on the same pins 4-5 or 3-6. Now that I know they will fail sooner or later I replace them all in the same spot/box…

Pros
  • Save with the 2 pack!
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Extremely high failure rate

I'm reluctant to give a negative review on the Monoprice product, but I think this review is justified - the failure rate is too high for such a simple product. I bought several of these a few years ago when I hooked up my house to CAT6. I fell apart while unpacking - not a good sign. For me the other two just didn't work after installation - using a cable straight out of the wall it worked fine. My other two connections dropped to 100Mbps. Luckily, I read the reviews on Monoprice before…

Pros
  • Fits all standard wall tiles and keystone panels
Cons
  • Very expensive
