Their setup was a huge PITA but they seem to be holding up my Suzuki DRZ400 well. I've kept getting flat backs (cracked valve stems) so I'm hoping this helps prevent it from happening again.
Quality is. The weight is not the same. This is a rim lock that WORKS. Prevents tire slippage in the rim. Unlike most heavy wheel rim locks, it also allows you to balance the wheel. It's my own fault if I bought the wrong size. 10-10 from me.
I had trouble balancing the rear wheel on the 2019 450X that I use as a dual sport. The standard lock required over 7 ounces of weight while this one only required about 3 ounces. It's a lightweight and durable plastic that will last a long time.
I see some of these lightweight rim locks breaking during installation. Plastic can't be as strong as aluminum, which weighs a lot more. I used a torque wrench to install and it seemed to take a long time to get to 10 ft lbs.
Good material minimizes rotational mass and imbalance. Do not overtighten as it is plastic and will tear. When changing tires, be sure to remove and clean/tighten threads for accurate torque. Great product if you follow the above.
I am installing these on the front and rear of my 2019 CRF450L. That's right, street legal, they have the same rims as the R model, although the rear is 18 instead of 19. But that's ok, one they don't have with a rim lock so traffic pros work perfectly. I gave 4 stars for ease of installation because I have to move the tires back 1/2 rim to install properly.
I was having problems with the front and rear tires spinning on my Suzuki DRZ400S. I had these for the front and rear. Put the back first, everything got up with no problem. I tightened the nut to 10ft/lbs. But as I moved forward I pinched the tube when reinstalling the tire and had to rip it open to patch the tube. Installation went well the second time. I coated the threads with anti-seize paste according to the assembly instructions and tightened the nut. It got tight but never tight enough…
