Motorcraft BT 74 Belt Tensioner Review

2WD, 2-Door Super Cab, 3.0 v6; I decided to remove the four 10mm screws holding the fan blades which gave me enough room to work comfortably, the tensioner fitted perfectly and along with the new NAPA strap I removed my chirp.

This is a perfect OEM match. I was surprised at how much play the belt had on the old one. The sag is now less than an inch and the extremely annoying intermittent squeak is finally gone. Very easy installation although you may need an allen wrench to get the old screw out.

Exact replacement for 2004 Ford Ranger 3.0L Flex Fuel. Revane said that was the wrong part, but it's true. It pushes hard against the radiator fan, but with the help of a 3/8" ratchet, 15mm socket and T50 Torx bit I was able to replace it. I recommend removing the idler pulley that sits over the tensioner for easier access. You will also need a short T50 bit (less than 1 inch); My longer bit didn't fit between the screw head and the fan.
