🔒 The Ultimate Motorcraft FC1004 Locking Fuel Cap: Ensuring Security and Efficiency Review

It is very strange that my 2002 F150 was not fitted with a lockable gas door. I remember buying the first/last one at the local auto parts store for $20. Maybe I shouldn't complain because I'm making about 2 times more than I used to. Incidentally, a guy from a local auto parts store recently asked me why I didn't just buy a new truck and I told him that with that philosophy I would have sold my wife long ago!

This was a very well made OEM factory item BUT these caps come with TWO (2) OR THREE (3) tongue designs. My original cap is a TWO (2) tab model. The cap I received was a THREE (3) tab model. Very well made, but wrong lid. THIS IS VERY NORMAL FOR FORD PARTS. THIS IS REALLY "STANDARD" IS VERY LITTLE. I ONLY RETURNED IT FOR A REFUND AND THE MONEY WAS REFUNDED TO MY ACCOUNT ONCE I RETURNED IT TO UPS.

This one was fine and works as it should. The first FC1004 I got last year never worked properly and was very difficult to unlock and remove, but it was from another supplier and was probably defective to begin with. I tried the Motorad brand but eventually their seal seemed to come off and I got 'small vacuum leak' error codes in OBDII. Ultimately, it didn't fit my truck, even though Revain (and even Rock Auto) said it shouldn't. At the same time it seems such a high quality item that I'm a little frustrated at how much more substantial it seems than the real thing! One thing I hate about local auto parts store gas caps is that they don't have a handy tether to hold you in place Find a good one Place to attach the gas cap while refueling. Also, I don't really understand how the lock function is supposed to work (e.g. turn right or left? How far do you turn? Leave the key in while it's in the trash can on the circle? k? Love the lid and the sealability. Looks nice and works great. The only thing I don't like is the plastic key case with Ford written on it. My last cap that was damaged by a gas thief was a genuine Ford product made out of metal parts. Motorcraft made them cheaper to sell cheap.
