Optimized Single Serve Coffee Maker: Mr. Coffee HotCup, Pod-Free Brew Review

This coffee machine is great! No expensive pods, just my regular coffee, and the 32-ounce water reservoir is a big plus too.

I love the simplicity of this machine for its operation and the fact that I can use freshly ground coffee without pods. I wish I had found this sooner.

This coffee maker is a great alternative to Keurig. Operation is incredibly simple - very similar to a KCup machine using a small coffee filter and fresh coffee grounds. The taste is incredible - even using the same type of coffee, the taste is MUCH better than the kcup result. Plus, I save money by buying coffee grounds instead of glasses and rid myself of the guilt of throwing away so many empty pods. Mr Coffee HotCup is a great find!

We liked this coffee maker for about a week. Easily measure your coffee with the included measuring spoon and cup size scale. After the first week we started having short cups (at only about 4-7 oz on the 8 oz setting). We tried different grinds, pre-ground and wetting filters. We had to reduce the amount of coffee to get the right ounces, but that would be too weak. I brought it up to 8 oz several times, I also got 12 oz out of the car. Overall rather disappointed. I bought this because it had a cone shaped coffee basket and also because Mr. Coffee has a good brand reputation. My mom says it makes delicious coffee but I think she only makes 1 cup at a time. This is from the woman who made us go into the blizzard to get milk for her coffee because she couldn't drink it black. That's why she's picky about her coffee. The day this coffee maker arrived I followed the cleaning instructions before first use (fill water tank, press dry boil button). The water was heated normally, but after heating it did not leave the heating element. I contacted support Mr. Kaffee to see if there was a solution to troubleshoot and left a phone number for a call back. You never called me back. Back to Amazon. I used to love K-Cup but got too expensive. Now with this brewer I am happy to be able to use my own coffee and have the option to use different cup sizes. Brewed hot and to taste - just right. It's almost impossible to find a single serve coffee maker that doesn't support K cups. I prefer using a paper filter as the K-Cup inserts that collect your coffee grounds are not as easy to clean and you shouldn't toss your coffee grounds down the chute.
