Works as expected. Good price compared to the hardware store. While they can be a nuisance, I recommend using them - 1) they help protect the integrity of the water supply and water pressure for everyone, and 2) they are required by law in many parts of the country. Normally works but often starts spouting water endlessly. I went outside and found puddles of water everywhere because this thing was shooting water for hours. I connected it externally on one side of the Y connector for use with irrigation. If the pressure in my house's system changes too much, this thing shoots water. The funny thing about this vacuum interrupter. It makes a "whistling" sound every time the hose nozzle is turned on and off. There is also a constant whistling noise when the water is flowing at low volume. This came as a surprise to me as no one else mentioned this "feature" in their reviews. My guess is that the whistling sound is caused by the rapid oscillating motion of the valve as it tries to respond to the low pressure in the hose by vibrating back and forth. This is the first backflow preventer I've used but I do a lot of gardening and the hose is always connected to the outside so I took someone's advice and bought it. I didn't know and didn't expect that the strong water mist would be regularly expelled from the periphery of the valve and hit my face right after installation :D.
