My loyalty to Netgear is waning.

I've always used Netgear and never had any major issues with it (just some compatibility issues with some vendors) so I plugged it in as an upgrade to my Netgear 802.11b router [ .] and the setup -Wizard could not connect. I called Netgear support for help and after an hour of random attempts they told me my cable modem wasn't compatible with their router (what?!). They tell me to put a hub in between and it will work. Easy to use and connect

Let me say that I know absolutely nothing about home networking. I had dial-up access for years because it wasn't available in my area (and I live in Silicon Valley!). When our cable company started selling it, we subscribed to it immediately. I found the Netgear router and card very handy and easy to use. I simply connected the router, followed the instructions and off we went. The card was just as easy to set up. My desktop is running Windows XP and my laptop is running Win98. The only…

It worked at first, now it doesn't.

I don't know what happened, but suddenly every day a reboot was required. I couldn't find any websites with the router installed, but after three or four tries they were suddenly found. Not allowed. I also noticed severe slowdowns even on a wired connection, and most websites opened incompletely. Went back to the modem with my firewall software. I even updated the firmware and changed the settings, no luck. I wouldn't even bother trying support based on Netgear support's crappy reviews…
