Good basic zoom lens.

A good value basic zoom lens for entry level full frame DSLRs or 35mm film cameras. It's sharp, light and simple. Don't let the low price and cheap looks fool you, this lens is actually one of the best in terms of optical quality. Keep this in mind if you want to use polarizing filters or graduated gray filters.

  • A dream come true

Good glass! - Lenses for cameras

I found out about this lens after reading about photographers on a forum. This is an older lens that contains plastic making it cheaper but the optics are top notch. Photographers who knew him praised him. All they wanted to say about plastic was be careful with it, especially when it's attached to a camera. I took some experimental shots with it and am impressed with its sharpness and clarity just like they said. With a wide-angle zoom range of 28mm to 80mm, this lens could easily become my…

Pros
  • Expensive but decent

  • Piggy bank price

Good clarity and sharpness

I bought this lens to fit a Nikon film camera and digital Nikon D80 and digital Fuji S2 Pro. Color and sharpness are excellent on both film and digital cameras, with sharpness exceeding the resolution of film or my limited (10 and 12) megapixel DSLRs. Although the case is made of plastic, it seems quite sturdy compared to metal but lighter. If you drop it, it will most likely break rather than dent. One problem I had was that the aperture pin is short enough that the aperture stays open if you…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Sad gear

Plastic. SPICY. Excellent optics, too little material for assembly.

If you do without it because it's plastic, then you obviously don't care about the look itself. This is Nikon's sharpest zoom lens. (Note: did I say "best”? No, sharpest). build quality? It feels plasticky and cheap, but for the price you can have more than one, or replace many times before spending as much as others - and this one is sharper. Distortion and HA? They exist, but most lenses have them. Not bad. Colour reproduction? A little warm compared to their classic Miller Primes, but…
