Uses the lenses I want.

Replacement for d300 which I had to sell a few years after it was released; This camera does what I need. In fact, as far as I've seen, it has about the same capabilities as today's cellphones in terms of harsh light conditions. That and its weight, which I need to take sharp photos to the tenth of a second. It's been a long time since I had a digital camera and I bought this $50 brand new camera. I'd definitely love to find a D300 at this price point, but that's all I need for now.

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Takes me back to the movie days. There's 6MP and there's "6MP". It has an APS-C sensor, so it's probably the best 6MP out there. Works with all my lenses, old film lenses and manual lenses. Read on to see if yours works. With older lenses without autofocus you have to work in manual mode, but the focus indicator still works (set AP with the lens ring and shutter speed with the right front wheel). I have a photo app on my iPhone that acts as a light meter and recommends settings. This works forโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Sad packaging

One of my main settings so far. This camera was so good I bought two "just in case". If you increase the resolution, you get fantastic shots that can be enlarged to life size. It's so easy to use and makes you and your work look professional every time. It doesn't have all the latest bells and whistles you'll never need, but it takes fantastic shots. The best part is that it still includes the screw focus of older lenses and the electronic focus of newer lenses. So you get old glass for halfโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Periodicity

D70S with 18-135 lens

D70S body and 18-135mm lens purchased separately. This is about $200 cheaper than the D80 18-135mm kit. I am very happy with the D70S. Good workmanship, solid construction. Benefit from the manual modes - extensive metering and focusing options give you more flexibility when photographing in difficult situations. The camera turns on and off very quickly. A friend who recently bought a Canon XTi with an 18-55mm kit lens decided that the D70s and 18-135 combo was the best buy after having theโ€ฆ

Some thoughts on using manual focus lenses on Nikon D70s

I have had this camera for about two months and have taken about 100 photos (storage) to date. Having been a photographer for almost 35 years, I have certain prejudices. In particular, I've never felt comfortable with automatic exposure, and even less with autofocus. In fact, the last autofocus camera I owned was a Nikon N8008s, which I ended up selling at auction because I couldn't adjust to the various automatic settings. Still, I like this camera. Why? The D70s is a very easy camera to useโ€ฆ
