🔌 Noctua NF-A4x10 5V PWM Quiet Fan with USB Power Adaptor Cable - Premium 4-Pin, 5V Version (40x10mm, Brown) Review

I attached this Noctua fan to a heatsink that I attached to my laptop charger (secured with GPU thermal pad zips). It is very quiet, but at the same time powerful, easily extracting heat from the radiator. If you want to cool something with a USB port, this is a great fan.

I bought this to cool on a Raspberry PI 4. I understand that most of us Pi users don't normally spend that much on a basic fan, but I've died of a cheaper one before and went for quality. So far, so good.

Purchased to replace the non-PWM fan that came with the Jetson case. Calm. Great build quality but you have to pay for it. It costs the same as a case + fan, but I'm willing to pay for PWM and ultra-low noise. I bought the 40x20mm version first as it was advertised as perfect for the Jetson Nano, but no proper screw is included. I have bought many Noctua fans over the last few years and they are always very quiet. However, I installed it in a modified Raspberry Pi 4 case and it makes a lot of noise. It's at least as loud as those Pi fans (/media/videoStorage/videos/uVEOuHf6vl/jRM2bEW1n780) but you get two GeeekPi fans for less and they're ready to install (I had to make my own header). so that this Noctua fan is connected to the GPIO). The fans aren't that loud, but I was looking for something that wouldn't be audible.

Best Raspberry Pi 4 Fan! Make sure you're using the right cables, and with a little scripting, you'll end up with a quiet Raspberry Pi 4 with decent cooling.

I chose Noctua fans because of their reputation for making quality quiet fans, although I've never had personal experience with the brand. Maybe their big fans are a different story, but these little ones I bought here don't live up to that reputation. The bugs are unnecessarily loud and the plastic cases are incredibly fragile and break easily.

Exceptionally quiet: you can hear it screeching at full speed in a perfectly quiet room, but it doesn't sound like some PCs. Works with 2-pin, 3-pin and 4-pin connectors. Has a tachometer output, accepts PWM input. Soft rubber on four mounting corners minimizes vibration transmission. I can feel the breeze 16 inches away. It's usually pretty hard to get carried away by a fan, but this one does it for me!

Fan quality, accessories and packaging are exceptional as expected from Noctua. If you want to control the 5V fan speed on the RPi without adding any circuitry between the fan and the RPi, you need a PWM fan. The fan header requires some modifications to work with the RPi gpio. Either take some Dupont [male-female] jumpers or cut the connector and add Dupont connectors to the case. Add code/script to RPi to control fan speed. Search for "wiringpi fancontrol" on github.
