That's the only downside I've found so far. The handles are a little short for less strong individuals, so you don't have the leverage to push through a potato. This isn't a problem if you cook your potatoes thoroughly. The WebRestaurant store has one that is 16 inches overall for $46. I bought this one instead because the 16 inch tool is a storage issue. This one is 11 inches tall, so it's easier to find a place to store it.

I like it and it seems strong. I wouldn't wash it in the dishwasher though. I would have preferred the grips to be silicone for a better grip, but it came out crushed. The mug is larger than other riders I've seen which is why I bought it. You must be sure that the potatoes are cooked until tender. Wash it immediately after you've eaten all the potatoes (even before you've finished cooking) and you won't have a problem peeling it. All those tiny holes get clogged easily.

I have tried different rice cookers but Norpro was the best. The handle is comfortable and holds enough potatoes to quickly fry rice. Some people say the pin on the front of the riser doesn't hold it together. If you rotate the pen so that the hook of the pen is facing forward, the pen will lock into place. There were no instructions for the riser, so all you had to do was look at how the riser looked on the box.

Questionable quality and workmanship. Definitely not suitable for commercial use where food safety is absolutely essential (or even home use). It had a lot of lost spiked metal sticking out of the holes and around the device. I found pieces falling on potatoes. Also, it is not easy to clean as there are many gaps around the seams of the unit where food can easily get in/clog. Which then swells. It cannot be completely cleaned by simply washing your hands. Bad design.
