It makes my knives cut!

I'm learning how to sharpen stones so I need an inexpensive but decent set of stones. It was recommended to me by a few chefs and I am very happy with it. There's a learning curve, but I've watched a lot of YouTube videos and now my knives (from a certain Swedish warehouse) are very sharp. I've heard that it's better to sharpen knives more easily, so I'm glad this stone was able to sharpen a cheaper blade well. I back the blade up with a ceramic sharpener and two months later it's still good.

Pros
  • Packaging dimensions: 8L x 2H x 4W (inches)
Cons
  • Available in white only

The first one I got was chipped; went back to Revain and the 2nd was perfect. Sharpens very well. A couple of my knives had serrations. In the end, 1000 Grit fixed them, but it took a lot of patience. Next time I'm working on knives that require maintenance, I'll use grit (in addition to this stone). Best advice: a) Watch some YouTube videos about using water stones; and b) get a corner lead. Keeping the knife at a constant angle is very important (and difficult at first).

Pros
  • Country of origin: China
Cons
  • High price

This stone cuts quite aggressively due to the surface it leaves behind. This waterstone doesn't cut as fast as a diamond plate, but because the grit is finer, the surface is smoother. It cuts faster than a ceramic block of the same grit, so you can use the 1000 grit side to remove small chips and still get a relatively smooth finish. Be careful not to scratch the stone, as it is softer and more prone to damage than almost anything I have used, including natural Arkansas stones, the…
