🚽 Improved ABS Black Cast Iron Closet Flange Replacement - Oatey 43538, 4-inch Review

Worked great for my old cast iron pipe house. I was able to cut and install the pipe and after a year it was working perfectly.

Worked great on my old cast iron piping when the lead reinforced brass flange came loose. I just had to carefully cut the rust off the inside of the cast iron to make it fit and now it fits perfectly and no more fiddling with the cast iron.

I have used them twice in my 1960's house. The previous build used multiple rings over an old cast iron ring. This led to a leak under the tiles. With 43538 he lifted the edge right above the tile. I used a gasket but it was placed under 43538 so there is no risk of leakage. Works great, sealed, no leaks.

Was remodeling a bathroom and one of the jobs was the toilet. My current setup is that I had a cast iron flange that was in bad shape. Ordered this before I knew I needed it because I wanted to be ready. Lo and behold, I needed it. All stores are sold out and I'm so glad I ordered it. Does exactly what I need and now I can do #1 and #2 knowing my toilet is installed correctly.

I had an old cast iron toilet flange and pipe that needed replacing from the flange up. After being able to break, drill and rip out the old cast iron flange, I needed an ABS flange to fit the old cast iron pipe and it worked. I installed the flange on top of our new floor tile and using an allen wrench, gently tightened the three screws on the inside to expand the rubber band on the outside that holds the gasket in the tube. I was renovating my basement bathroom and found I had a rusting 4 inch cast iron toilet flange that was flush with the floor with rusted screw slots. You better try To knock the flange out of the concrete slab I used this flange replacement. Because of all the rusty iron spikes around the pipe, the neck of the flange didn't fit the pipe at first. Piece of excrement. The compressible seal is only as thick as a rubber band. The nuts on the bottom rest on the plastic to tighten. They don't tell you how tight to tighten, I expected a snug fit with a "gasket" to be tight enough. If you overtighten the gasket will slip out of the grooves and you won't be able to get it out without tearing the plastic around the nuts on the bottom. If you're retrofitting an old cast iron pipe like many others have mentioned you're going to struggle. In my case I had to cut the pipe with a $9 cast iron reciprocating saw from Port Freight. I ended up getting it to fit my 50 year old 4 inch cast iron downpipe but it scratched A LOT on the inside of the pipe to fit. Over the years, the inside of the drain pipe has corroded and formed a "bumpy" rusty scab. It is IMPOSSIBLE for it to fit without removing a significant buildup.
