🧢 O'Neill 2mm Neoprene Beanie Review

I used this one surfing in Santa Cruz (O'Neil Country) and it just went right out of my head. I returned it. I think for other purposes it's fine if you want a rubber cap, but not for me. Instead I bought a warm Blueseventy skullcap and it worked for me.

It turned out to be even thicker than I expected, covering my huge head and equally large forehead. I use it for open water swimming and it can even be a bit warm for waters over 60 degrees. I wear a 7 3/4 cap, size XL was great and comfortable for swimming but might be a little big for surfing.

I wear these after diving so the wind doesn't irritate my ears when it blows in the boat on the way back. It saved me from the ear infections I used to get every dive. I think other similar hats will be of the same quality, so maybe it doesn't matter which company you work with. But having something to plug your ears is wonderful.

I bought this item to protect my hair while snorkeling so I don't look like a mad scientist when I emerge from the water after my snorkel mask destroyed my hair. The hat, which POSSIBLY looked ridiculous, not only protected my hair, my head was almost completely dry. Unexpected bonus! I would definitely recommend this item

I thought the hat would be perfect for diving in warm water without a neck brace and also as a way to open your ears above the water for better hearing. However, there is a big problem - the gas expansion around the head when rising from the depths. This inflates the cap and threatens to tear off the mask. Vent holes in the crown solve this problem.

I'm a female with a 21 1/2" head size and ordered a small. Fits looser than I would like but ok. I'd say that Small is definitely male.Probably going to run a little big for watersports but as they fit loosely I can use them as a running hat over earmuffs in winter.For swimming I probably need to wear a lycra cap top or bottom to to keep them in place.

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. It keeps my head nice and warm during the dive. And it protects my, um, thinning hair and scalp from the sun while I prep before and after my dive. Make sure you cut a couple of coin sized holes in the top to create a vent for the air to escape - the air from your regulator will tend to creep up your face and pool in your cap. The air vents solved this problem. GREAT HAT!

I wear this in place of a zip hood or hooded wetsuit for diving in Southern California (LA/DC/Catalina). It keeps my head warm in temperatures above 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 C). If it were a bit colder I would recommend wearing a regular diving hood.
