Expected standard connector

Trailer wiring replacement went great. The problem occurred when I tried to connect it to my Highlander. The rubber coating on the (white) ground wire was larger than the old connector, making it difficult to insert the trailer connector into the vehicle connector. I had to shave off the rubber on both connectors to make it work. The old connector I replaced fits correctly. I expected it to be a universal fit.

  • Great for me

Will not fit existing plug

I thought all 4 pin trailer plugs were universal. I've towed about 20 different trailers with my connectors on my GMC Canyon. Everyone fits. I had to replace the plug on my boat trailer as the plug was damaged. They do not fit. It's not one size fits all, it's oversized. Standard plugs do not fit. If you put this on your boat and try to pull it out with someone else's car, I can guarantee it won't fit in their car's connector. The only one I can find is the one that comes with the kit. Wrong…

As advertised: Wiring Harness

I've bought other wiring harness kits and what I liked about this one is that it was LED so no need to mess with bulbs. In fact, the body of the lamp is closed - there are no screws or, apparently, no way to open it. So I assume that if the bulbs burn out, I'll have to replace the lamp housing. It could be pain. But LED lamps usually last "forever". So I might have to post again later if this turns out to be a problem. My 6ft trailer didn't need a 25ft seat belt, so I wrapped about 18" around…

Exactly as advertised. Installs easily.

Good strong harness. It has separate left and right brake hoses from the fork so you don't have to run a cable to one taillight and then run a separate cable from that through the trailer to the other taillight. This greatly facilitated the work of laying wires. The instructions looked clear too. It would be nice if there was a cover for the trailer fork. But it kinda does when you do what I did. The included smaller wiring harness is designed to connect to your vehicle and has a female…

It worked but the white ground wire to the trailer is very short

This harness worked. I only needed the trailer side, but I needed the car side so I could hook it up to the battery for troubleshooting. In any case, it was easy to install and the overall length was long enough for my small trailer, but the white ground wire on the side of the trailer was short. Didn't do a full spin test, but I'll add a piece to lengthen it because it looks like it might pull out. My connector is built into the truck's bumper, so the end of the cable doesn't protrude beyond…

Ground wire only 16 " long on both sides

Ground wire on trailer side and vehicle side is only about 16" long. The description speaks of a 25ft pin and a 4ft socket - just a 16" ground wire isn't mentioned anywhere. While this works for the car (female) side, it does not work for the trailer (male) side. All trailers I have ever wired must have at least 24 inches of cable coming from the trailer. The ground wire doesn't have to be as long as the other wires, but it would be nice to have at least 6-8 feet to work with. Just having a 16…

Trailer frame ground was not working

I have a steel frame trailer and was trying to find a good circuit for a very short ground wire but the circuit was so bad the light was very dim. I had a good connection to the frame as I had just drilled through the frame, threaded the ground wire through the hole and then used a rivet to attach the wire to the plug and lantern ends. For troubleshooting I took an extra cable and connected the ground cable directly to the headlights and the problem was solved. Even though the floor worked…

Works but wires are not connected and white wire is short

This harness works but I had two problems with it: 1) I wanted to rewire my trailer so the ground wires go all the way to the rear lights, not grounded through the trailer chassis. Grounding through the trailer chassis introduces problems like bad connections due to corrosion etc so I wanted to rewire my trailer with ground wires going to each of the taillights. . This harness has a short (about 2 feet long) white ground wire that is not suitable for this. I had to extend my own cable. The…
