🚲 Origin8 Classique Sport ATB Stem: The Perfect 85mm Upgrade for 1" (22.2mm) Bikes Review

A very good upgrade from the standard adjustable handlebars that come standard on many lower end comfort bikes, solid construction and great looks. A few pics, 1 standard neck and a couple of this one lost a few inches in height but looks 1000% more solid.

Origin8 just makes really good gear quality Period This stem is a great replacement for a rusty factory steel stem. Nice finish, very long and has a cable tray to run old school cantilever brakes! Well done Origin8!

Although the description is a bit confusing, the food itself is fine. Lightweight, well polished, well finished. Perfect fit for my old 1974 Raleigh Super Course Mark II. aligned (be careful not to touch the threads) but the tolerances are good and tight. To be clear, the stem is 22.2mm long. Handlebar mount 1 inch (25.4 mm)

I'm a very tall rider who rides a flat bar road bike and I wanted the bars to be a little higher so I could keep my elbows bent. To the right. This thing did it. The double clamp is also great, because if you ever want to dismantle the handlebars for whatever reason, you don't have to remove the grip to do so. Quill stems are pretty silly, but if that's what your bike needs, it's a great way to take the pressure off a bit.

Fits my 1995 Specialized Crossroads hybrid with cantilever brakes, but I had to remove the wedge (lower ribbed part) from the old stem and put it in this one use to make it work. The wedge on this stem was slightly warped so it didn't fit perfectly and I was never able to tighten the stem enough. After replacing this part with the part from my old stem, it went into the bike and tightened properly.

I haven't had a chance to ride this stem yet. This is because the screws included in the package broke off during installation. The faceplate provides a torque reading for the faceplate screws - 17Nm - and the screw heads snap off before my torque wrench could get there. I managed to get the screws out and am hoping to find a replacement that is a little more durable. But I'm very frustrated that I couldn't even install this before it failed.

This stem strikes the right balance of value and craftsmanship. I've looked everywhere for an ergonomic stem that's made well enough to smooth out the welds that some other companies leave rough. Once installed, the stem transformed a commuter bike I built from an old ten speed Cannondale into a modern Dutch style. Origin8 products do not disappoint, I highly recommend them for converting older bikes to a less aggressive handlebar position.

I have used similar replacement parts (our size) several times. Probably from the same Chinese company. The forgings look almost the same. These work fine. Very important, and the reasons why I bought them in the past and this time: 1. Suitable for forks with 1" steerer tube (22.2mm ID) forks2.
