Received this blender today and made a smoothie. Very nicely mixed. The outer case is plastic, but what else is new at this price point? The mixer is EXTREMELY loud, so I strongly recommend wearing hearing protection. Serious. I'll update after I make some margaritas. This was a replacement for a 30 year old Oster blender that started to work when making smoothies. I've read so many mixer reviews and decided on where to start. It's like a basic 2-speed blender, especially compared to our old 10-speed Easter. But the engine, wow! NASA was able to harness this power in the 60's. I have used this blender to make bulletproof coffee and 3 or 4 times the bottom lid unscrewed while the blender was running and the coffee poured into the whole kitchen splashed. When I called Auster after a 40 minute wait, I was told not to mix hot liquids. I then pointed out that the manual has instructions for mixing hot liquids and precautions to ensure steam escapes. At this point I was told that you can't mix liquids with temperatures above 120 degrees, although the manual doesn't say so.
