OttLite Replacement Magnetic Ballast Purchased Review

This bulb came in a box in a box in bubble wrap in a cardboard container. Very well protected. It was a little difficult to fit into the old lamp as it required a lot of pressure into the socket and I was afraid of breaking it, but it clicked into place with no problems and the light quality seems to be the same as the original lamp. I'm so glad my OttLite is working again for less than half the price of a new OttLite!

It is very easy to choose the wrong 13 watt bulb based on the age of the bulb. I had no idea when I bought the lamp. It would be better if the packaging and the lamp were clearly labeled with the respective type of lamp. This description must include the model number of the lamp. At the same time, the original lamp worked perfectly and lasted for many years. I don't know how long my new bulb will last, so I bought an extra bulb in case this model is discontinued.

I have an original Ott Light from the mid 90's and to be honest I can't remember ever changing the bulb! I didn't realize how dark it was until I accidentally turned it on in front of another light and it was pathetic. Obviously, Ott bulbs just die a slow, dark death and turn gray instead of just popping out like lightbulbs. I still use two Ott lamps that I have had for about 20 years. I originally bought them after reading how Ott designed the light spectrum of his lamps to more accurately reproduce real daylight. I have an old OTT-Lite with a usable magnifying glass. The replacement bulb I ordered initially looked like it would fit, but after great disappointment I asked my smart husband to look at the old and new bulbs. He found a microscopic difference in the size of the old and new bulbs compared to being able to fit them into bulb sockets (using the calipers he had).
