Works great on my M1 Mac mini (2020)

I ran out of disk space on my M1 Mac mini and started using an external USB hard drive. Needless to say, experience has told me that you need an SSD. I wanted a true Thunderbolt solution instead of Thunderbolt 3 compatible USB-C. I've been using OWC products for years and have bought both the Envoy Express and an inexpensive 500GB M.2 WD Blue SSD. Installing a solid state drive in the case is not difficult. Within minutes I was able to initialize it and use it on a Mac. Because it's a…

Much cooler than Orico

I like the fact that it doesn't get as hot as the Orico Thunderbolt 3 case I also have. I don't really like that the Thunderbolt cable is non-detachable from the device.

Pros
  • Hard drive accessory
Cons
  • Only available in white

Slowly, slowly, slowly! Write speed 400 MB/s

only write speed 400 MB/s?! I tested 970 Evo Plus and 980 Pro, both have low write speeds. The read speed was decent at 1400 MB/s.

Cons

Very good electronics

M1 Mac Mini 8 GB RAM. Black magic results with 1TB WD750SE 1272.6MB Write, 1490-1500MB Read. It's not the fastest option, but it seems to be the best result in a certified package. I want OWC updated to support speeds over 2000Mbps. But it outperforms most off-the-shelf external SSDs, with the exception of high-end drives like the Samsung X5. I really want a better option but without having to shell out $120 for an uncertified Chinese case to get 2000Mbps. It would be nice if OWC made it a V2…
