it is necessary when it is not convenient to open with iMac in general

worked and worked well. The OWC instructions were good, although I used both their instructions and those from another site. It's four stars because it's a little pricey - and the instruments are decent, but not much to write about. , this is a great tool set well worth the price.

Pros
  • normal price
Cons
  • for a long time

There's everything you need and more for iMac.

I purchased this kit to replace the hard drive in my mid-2011 iMac with an SSD. The kit has everything and more for the task. If that's all you use it for, there are many tools you won't use. I just used a screwdriver, suction cup and tweezers. Everything else was unnecessary for the task I was doing. However, they are worthy tools and I might find other uses for them in the future.

Pros
  • Durable Test Results
Cons
  • So-so

Everything came as described. I installed a 1TB SSD.

Everything came as described. I installed a 1TB SSD in my 2010 iMac. The installation took over 4 hours just because I cleaned my machine on the go, it took me a while to undo all the screws and I had a hard time installing the SATA cable (I had to flip it over so the text was on the cable faces down when you put it in the slot.) My brother also helped me play/pause and analyze the video when I was doing manual work, which was helpful.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Drill package

The tool set that comes with it is fine and has everything you need

Honestly everything is fine. Glue! This made it almost impossible to remove the paper from either side of the foam tape. The power Y cable has a grommet which is unnecessary and takes up a lot of space. everything you need, but it is clear that the tools are inferior. It generally works for the task of installing an SSD into an iMac, but overall quality seems lacking.

Pros
  • handy item
Cons
  • nothing here

Excellent kit; It is highly recommended to upgrade your iMac SSD.

I just successfully installed a Samsung 840 Evo SSD in my 2010 iMac Core i7. I've had this unit since 2010 and have avoided cracking the case as the inside looks a little intimidating despite years of PC building from parts and various MacBook repairs. All the essential tools are included and the video, while fast, shows the upgrade process well. Best of all, with the OWC kit, you have the original drive, optical drive intact, and a new SSD tucked away in an empty space in the iMac's case…

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Appearance

Not as pictured - add a disc, do not replace

The set I received was not the same as pictured. To replace a drive in a 2010 iMac, you need a T8 driver and thermal cable. It wasn't in my kit either. According to the OWC website, I got a kit to add a drive to an iMac. Adding a drive is much more difficult than replacing it. To add, remove all of the screws that secure the motherboard, move them out of the way, and then connect the new data cable. This procedure is well beyond the skills of a beginner. I would recommend looking at the kits…

  • Large selection
