Poor quality butterfly corkscrew

Our $6 bottle opener finally broke after a few years so I bought it as a gift for my wife. It looks good and worked well the first few times but on the 4th or 5th use the corkscrew broke and got stuck in the cork. I threw it in the trash and bought another one for $6. I try not to buy anything "cheap," but sometimes it's best to keep it simple.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Can't remember but there was something

Looks like the last corkscrew you will ever need to buy.

This is garbage and it is distorted. Looks like the last corkscrew you'll ever have to buy because it says 'steel' and looks solid. But it's galvanized cast iron. As a result, it breaks off at the weakest point, which is at the thin point of the corkscrew shaft, since it is a cheap cast.

Pros
  • beautiful thing
Cons
  • There are errors

A corkscrew broke off in a cork

I bought one for myself and one for the Santa Fe Cookery School where I volunteer. Both screws simply broke and ruptured the wine bottle's cork, leaving it unusable and with a bent piece of metal in the cork. It's cheaply made, although it feels like a sturdy knife. FORGET ONE OF THEM. IT'S A PIECE OF SHIT! And it costs about $25 to download. I will never buy again.

Pros
  • Useful beyond its intended purpose
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Opener OXO - Bullshit

I had an OXO opener for several years. That gave me a good performance. We usually drink a bottle of wine every night. When it finally broke, I ordered a new one. The new one broke after two weeks. I sent it back to Revain and ordered a replacement. I got a replacement yesterday and today I tried to open the 2nd bottle and the screw broke again and got stuck in the bottle. Cork. I don't know what OXO changed about their production but now they are garbage. Don't order that.

Pros
  • I hold my fists
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Looks great but corkscrew connection is fragile

Nice to look at and feel good but have now had two exactly the same failures despite very careful handling. The corkscrew is attached with a metal pin, which is simply cut off by the force of the cork pull. The first OXO butterfly corkscrew lasted several years in a house where wine is only served on special occasions, but broke, leaving the corkscrew half in the bottle in the cork. Since it was an accidental failure, we replaced the opener with an identical steel model that lasted less than a…

Grinds, has burrs on threads

We bought one of these many years ago and really liked it. Over the next year we donated at least five. We bought a new one this year to give away and it's worth nothing. The thread we overlooked is cast and has burrs, causing the device to fray when attempting to use it. We sent it back and got another one. Same problem. Now we've gone through five units, all polished. We called the manufacturer who kindly sent a replacement. It also has burrs, loops and is unusable. So sad. Really amazing…

Quality is not good enough for kitchen and dining room

I bought a couple of these and the quality is terrible. It feels very heavy when you pick it up, but the metal broke just above the corkscrew part on the one we bought. The metal just gave way. The last one we bought failed because the plastic/metal button on top started rotating in the socket and didn't fully tighten into the cork. I was able to fix it with epoxy. Otherwise they work great. Update 4/13/15: My epoxy fix didn't last long and the top of the plastic/metal button is spinning back…
