Works well, one thing that annoys me a little is that the handle is really heavy, so make sure the bowl is a lot wider than the basket, plus a few inches of handle (say 8 inches?). I bought this strainer to replace an old strainer that I have used for years and that belonged to my mother. This OXO filter came closest to me. It feels very well made and the mesh is secure to the touch and doesn't protrude on the sides, preventing food from getting under the rim. It's actually better than I expected, I love it. Frustrated with trying to remove fine grains with a cheesecloth lined strainer I ordered this mesh strainer. To my delight, this colander exceeded my expectations! I chose the 6" size because I wanted to be able to scoop the spaetzle out of boiling water or skim the solids and foam that rise to the top of my broth.
