The bottom of the dispenser will fail

While I was making my morning coffee, I shook the dispenser to loosen the sticky globs of sugar. Suddenly the floor fell out and I found myself with a cup of sugar on my feet. Oxo used to be a simple solution for kitchen products - not so much now. For a company that prides itself on its design, this is a huge mistake.

Should have pointed out to other reviewers

I received this product with no damage to the outer packaging but when I opened it the bottom was already torn. Oddly enough, the cracked bottom was on the silver (top) part of the item, so I think it was broken before shipping. I would recommend that you listen to other reviewers and don't buy the plastic version of the sugar dispenser.

Too small: Cream and sugar

The item was too small. If you drink coffee every day, you'll need to refill it every few days. The sugar will also get stuck in the spout making it difficult to close the spout and the sugar will end up on the countertop. The sugar also gets stuck in the small spout and you can't get it out. I bought the larger version which is better because it holds more but the design flaws are still there. You can just go back to the old-fashioned chrome-topped jar.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Annoys me

Great Dispensers!: Hospitality & Entertainment

I love these dispensers! I have them at work and at home and people keep asking me where I bought them. I read some reviews, people complain that they "stop working". I have to laugh of course, the steam from your coffee causes powdered sugar or sugar to clog. I just pour in a spoon onto my coffee mug, I find that solves the dreaded "vapor clogging" problem lol. The opening in the container is nice and wide, which makes filling easier. If you find that the lid is a bit sticky when screwing it…

It's great in the cool season

I think I've had it for a few years. I like this dispenser except for one downside. It is very sweet, contains a lot of sugar and is easy to fill and dose. When you open it to fill it gets a bit messy as the sugar tends to collect around the threads the lid is screwed on and that sugar falls out when you open it. However, it doesn't matter as long as you remember to open it over the sink or trash can. The downside I'm having trouble with is the sealing ability. The lid itself has a good seal…

It's great when your hands shake when you hold a spoon!

My husband bought this for me because my hands shake when I put sugar in my coffee and make a mess. The dispenser has a spout that is easy to open and close with one hand. Ants cannot enter it when it is closed. It pours well. We use unbleached raw sugar, which has larger crystals than bleached sugar. It's easy to hold, with large grip ribs. It's easy to clean and about the size of a traditional juice cup or jelly jar. The spout can be cleaned with a cotton swab and Bon Ami or a brush for…

Pros
  • Stainless steel accents create an attractive look.

  • I don't remember but there was something

Yes, mine has a chipped base too

The OXO Sugar Dispenser works well when new. However, sugar gets stuck in the spout over time, so you can hear the grinding of sugar stuck in the spout when you open and close it. OXO makes a lot of smart, useful gadgets and tools, but this one is a failure. The biggest disadvantage of this dispenser is the lack of durability. Little did I know the container has two parts. Apparently the base is a separate piece from the rest of the cylinder and can detach with a slight impact. Mine slipped an…

What happened to Oxo

Update: I contacted Oxo and I'm glad to see that they stand behind their products (even something as simple as a sugar dispenser). They're replacing my order so I've updated my review. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but lately my Oxo products just aren't the quality I remember. I ordered this sugar dispenser to replace the same oxo dispenser we have had for years. the old one helps very well, but over time the spout no longer closes perfectly (no cleaning effort seemed to work anymore). However, we…

Pros
  • BPA-free, see-through case that shows the level and a screw cap for easy refilling.
