Not bad for the money

The only problems I have with this machine: 1) no counter. The only counter (on screen) shows what's left to see, but not the total time. Another thing is that: 2) the remote control is not convenient to use. The keys are small and very close together. Also, they are not very sensitive and you have to put a lot of effort to get them to work. Otherwise it's perfection.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • So-so

Simple, clear, affordable price.

Simplicity, straightness and no unnecessary buttons, programming, problems with remote functions. For the price it's a good product and a good price for what it was advertised. We just wanted something to watch DVDs or listen to music CDs from time to time, with no programming, connection or extra hassle. That's all. Simply connect, insert DVD/CD and press play. Old. Happy with this purchase.

No HDMI, No Full Screen

It does NOT have an HDMI port, although some reviewers say it does. Connection is via red, yellow and white AV cables (included). Even after changing the setting to 16:9 full screen, it doesn't cover the entire screen of my 55" TV. There are 6-inch vertical black bars on either side of the image. This player was very quick and easy to set up, but I will most likely be returning it due to the lack of full screen mode. If you want a very basic player, this is fine.

This is what you were looking for!

Wonderful! We wanted a simple device that could play CDs. We went through dozens of very unhappy reviews and finally settled on a Samsung device because the reviews weren't as bad as most of them. It's sad that this option remains, but it seems to be the new normal. Well, it arrived, in short, rubbish, they threw it away in three days, and we returned it. We came across this Panasonic by accident. It got good reviews and is perfect for us. Very easy controls, great performance and unlike most…

USB playback freezes after 18 months of light use. DVD/CD Playback OK

The Panasonic S500 DVD player with USB connection has been working properly for 18 months. My main use is to play music and audio files through the USB port through an A/V amp. Two months ago, USB media playback froze and neither the remote control worked nor the manual power button on the DVD player. I had to unplug the DVD player to get it working again. This happens with several different SanDisk USB sticks that have previously worked with this device. The DVD works perfectly, but that's not

Panasonic is good, at least for now

I've started buying and watching a lot of DVDs as I'm in the process of giving up cable TV so wanted a second DVD player, just right for case one i died Now I watch DVDs about 6 hours a day. The one I had at the time was a Panasonic which I've had for about 7 years and knew it was getting old so I bought a cheap LG to replace as I have an LG TV that works great and I wanted one two different TVs. Brands of DVD players (I didn't want both DVD players to turn on when I wanted to turn on only…
