The proprietary audio format is BS

That's really all there is to say. I bought it assuming it was in MP3 format like most recorders these days. I bought it specifically for recording ambient samples that I will use in my music. As there is no way to convert it to mp3 and Panasonic refuses to write software that allows this conversion, the product is completely useless to me. it comes with a recorder, you will be fine.

Pros
  • Annual Trial
Cons
  • Corrupted

It's OK - Portable audio and video

I bought this a few years ago. I expected it to be a simple machine that is easy to work with. That's true, but there are some features that are more complicated than they should be or that don't work properly. Working with the clock is routine work and pain. I use it a lot so when I change the battery I have to reset everything, date, time, it sounds right but it's not as easy as it looks. The dictation function is the biggest shortcoming. If you dictate into the device and pause, it will be…

Pros
  • Rugged build

This product really sucks and so does Panasonic.

I usually use a Sony voice recorder for my work (reporter), but I don't always have access to it. I found this Panasonic in my office and used it as a backup for a while until I discovered how awful it was. The audio quality is fuzzy, with a lot of static, and I have to listen to the same ten seconds of the interview over and over again, trying to decipher what the person was saying. This is also helped by the fact that the controls are completely uncomfortable for the user. Need to rewind…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

extremely annoying "mysterious files "

As already mentioned, this device does not record to MP3, but to a proprietary Panasonic system. What they didn't realize is that the files are weird and invisible! They can only be seen by Panasonic's own software. I was running Panasonic Voice Studio software on Windows XP, both Pro and Home editions. No problem starting Voice Studio. No problem with USB connection. But while Windows can run Voice Studio, it cannot display sound files. These files are so well hidden that they don't even show…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No performance

Unsupported and Branded

If sound quality and features were the only thing that mattered, this product would probably be worth a 4 rating. It is relatively easy to use and records with quite good quality. Unfortunately, it suffers from several HUGE flaws that could have been a deal breaker if I had figured it out back then. First, although it uses a standard USB mini-plug, for some reason they've settled on a proprietary way of interacting with a computer, and to top it off, a proprietary audio file format. Finally…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
