PanaVise 400 Heavy Duty Base Review

With this and a mounting head I assembled the clay portrait head I'm working on now. The head is part of a life-size figure, but it's much easier to work with it separate from the body when I can rotate it into different positions, which allows me to make this device. 4 stars only because unlocking, repositioning and relocking is a bit slower than my impatience will allow.

My husband said he would give 5 stars if the plastic handle didn't break so easily. It was a Christmas present and when it arrived it was wrapped up and placed under the tree. When opened, the plastic handle consisted of 5 parts. We didn't send it back as my husband needed it for a project so he improvised. For the price it would be nice if the handle was metal too and not something that falls apart.

, I'm a little disappointed with PanaVise. Based on some other reviews I wanted to use a wood carving vise. My wood carving consists of a hammer and chisel and this vise doesn't seem strong enough for it. The mounting head tends to slip under heavy use. I think these vises will be good for finer work but they are not as strong as the Veritas carving vises which are significantly more expensive. Keep this in mind if you need a carving vise.

Great product. I've been looking for a working wood carving holder for a long time and this is the best I've found. Use it with the Model 437 work holder and it should be perfect for my purposes. Excellent customer service from Revain and its supplier. The vise is well made and offers an endless number of angles and turns to accommodate my carving needs. At a very reasonable price.
