Modified, then earned.

Works. However, if you use them on an old Ford, especially a Mustang, it's too long. I had to cut off about 4 inches and use a spacer to keep this thing from falling to the floor. Once you figure it out, it works wonderfully. Simplified my setup after changing the tool.

Worked great for me

Old car, one of the front springs doesn't fit very well, thought I had it but no. This tool allowed the spring to be installed without having to disassemble the ball joint again. The bolt is too long for my application, so I added 6" long steel tubing to effectively tap the threads needed for compression.

Pros
  • Regular price
Cons
  • Packaging is ugly

Works on 3rd Gen Camaro

Although a little difficult to install, it works much better than the stock supercharger on the 1982-1992 3rd Gen Camaro. If you keep pushing and twisting, you'll eventually bring the upper arms to a point near the tip of the spring, and then the screw will compress enough for the spring to come out easily and nicely.

poor quality/design

I bought one from Summit Racing in 2009 and couldn't get it to work properly on a '65 Mustang. I borrowed and used the kd brand many years ago with no problems. The hooks do not fit between the spools and each hook had to be shortened to fit with a cutting tool. Then the threaded rod was too long and I had to shorten it.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • something different

I used this to completely restore the suspension on my '66 Mustang. I have external (external springs) spring clamps but this internal spring compressor worked fantastic. Add some lube to the bolt before tightening with an electric or pneumatic tool (much easier). I prefer NOW internal coil spring compression tools over external spring clamps.

It works, but you need to know a few important things!

Good for a classic Mustang, but here's what you need to know to avoid injury (or worse). The center screw is MUCH longer on the classic Mustang. It would bounce against the spring seat making it impossible to move the spring and also create a safety problem and damage the seat. As many people have mentioned, it should be shorter. ***** BUT ***** When you cut it, be VERY careful to leave enough thread to safely loosen/release the tension! RELEASE THE TENSION! I cut off about an inch more and…
