This ball head is much better than the one that came with the

. I bought this head to replace the head on my recently purchased tripod. This ball head is much better than the one that came with the tripod. I have a Nikon D500 with a 300mm lens. This holds the camera securely in any position. It's a bit more, but the strength is worth the weight trade-off.

Hard to rotate

This "heavy" tripod ball is a little smaller than I expected and the spirit level is small. Basically there are two different sized knobs to control the rotation of the ball. Inevitably, one or both is too loose or too tight, and the first knob you touch isn't good for adjustment. I suspect that one is for easy loosening and tightening to move the camera, and the other for adjusting the "tension". This doesn't work well for me. With a small bubble, it's difficult to be precise. None of the…

OK Product: Tripods & Monopods

First I got the ball head with a small piece (about 1/4 inch long). It doesn't affect functionality but removing the black paint will reveal the color of the alloy so it's quite noticeable. In terms of functionality, it's pretty stable and will hold my 100-300 zoom DSLR with no issues. And I love that the screw comes with a D-ring so it's easier to install without a coin. There are 4 knobs in total, one for tightening the quick release plate, one for horizontal pan, two for the ball part. The…

Tripod and monopod pre-test

I just received the product and did a pre-test. I had a job doing similar tests with over 30 years of experience. Before buying, I read all the reviews for this product, as well as for an equally cheaper product. The difference is that for $4 more I got an extra plate and 4 1/4-3/8 jacks. Whilst researching counter plates and clamps, which proved to be a problem for many, here are my findings. In addition to the two plates included with Pergear, the Mefoto and Induro plates (Mefoto 37mm x 60mm…

too much deflection, too much tightening

For me a 5 star ball head is one that is easy to tighten and loosen and doesn't sag. This head is not very good in either case. I literally just got back from a sunrise to sunset photo tour, and I'm not thrilled with how these heads fared. was sufficient. I was a little frustrated that I had to loosen and tighten both knobs to adjust, but once locked the head was stable enough for long exposures. When I mounted a lightweight 70-300mm lens, things looked very different. I used to mount a very…
