With 5 cats you don't have enough scratching posts to give them something to scratch instead of furniture. It came together quickly and has more support than other similar scratches we have. The sisal is wrapped tightly and stapled securely to the poles or the sisal doesn't seem to move or shift when scratched like some of our others. I've bought a lot of scratching posts over the years but this is the first I'm buying again. Unlike my previous ones, this scratching post is solidly built. It is also very easy to assemble. The only tool you need (hex wrench) is included. The base folds down like most other scratching posts, inserting a screw and washer into the bottom.
