Check the labels on the welding wire

I ordered .030 cored wire. When it arrived the box said 0.030 but the label on the roll says 0.035 so not sure what I got. The arc with this wire seems very hard, but there isn't much spatter. The slag is tougher than the other wire I've used, but cleans up well with a spoked wheel.

Pros
  • Welding equipment and supplies
Cons
  • Wrinkled

Just a problem with welding equipment and accessories

Coil arrived as expected, actually a day early. However, it is not as chosen in the order. I ordered .030 wire and received .035 wire. Since I'm welding thin tubing, .030 wire would be much easier to use and wouldn't cause burn through, requiring welds to fill and using twice the wire to make the connection. More cleaning, sanding, etc. So I think my assessment is more than fair.

Pros
  • Tools and household items
Cons
  • Only available in white

Suitable for hobby

This flux is suitable for small, non-critical jobs. However, I believe sweat porosity is almost inevitable. He doesn't do a good job of protecting. I normally use C75 for mild steel work but have used it as a last resort (no more petrol). I've made several target stands so I wasn't worried about the quality of the weld. I wouldn't use this for anything that preserves life or valuable property as the quality of the weld is poor (porosity).

Pros
  • welding machines
Cons
  • old
