I never thought it could be such a wonderful tool. Aside from handwritten and typed notes, recording collects more than other note-taking methods from meetings, discussions, event planning, etc. When notes can account for and account for voice accuracy and variability, it proves its worth and much more. Easy to set up and use.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Test, test, 1, 2, 3.

This little device is powerful and the 360 degree microphone is very nice. After conducting several tests before the meeting, he recorded 5 voices in a closed room speaking at the same time. The rendering is excellent and seems clear. Transferring to a laptop is easy, as is device management. I had to remove the installed songs and prompts that came with the voice recorder but overall a great tool.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Hard to say

Worked great for a few uses - UPDATE: replacement is perfect

Worked great for a few uses, then showed no signs of life at all. Philips replaced the original with a new one as I was still under warranty. The new one is only a few days old so I don't know if it will work any better. Update March 2019: I've had this new (warranty replacement) for 3 years now and it works great! The battery lasts very long (I recently recorded over 15 hours of interviews and the battery shows 75% availability). Recordings are very, very clear.

Pros
  • handy item
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

The DVT8000 looks good but feels fragile. It can record in various formats, from WAV at 1.6 Mbps to MP3 at 8 Kbps. Conveniences for filtering wind noise and adjusting microphone sensitivity are useful, but the microphone is best for recording meetings. After a year of occasional use (about 10 hours total) my device refused to turn on unless connected to a charger (USB source). After a few minutes of recording, the battery died, indicating a battery problem. But the battery is built-in and not…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • No instructions

Device stopped charging or working after 3 months

I bought this device to record meetings in a medium sized conference room. I liked the Phillips name and characteristics. Additional microphones provided better coverage and the ability to accurately capture the comments of everyone in the meeting. The device worked fine for a few months, then the recorded files began to disappear. I thought it might have been user error but I was unable to troubleshoot properly as the device completely stopped working. Made the mistake of buying another one…

Pros
  • Great for me

Worth every penny! - Digital Voice Recorders

I bought this recorder to record our bi-monthly board meetings. We used to have problems recording all the voices with the recorder we used before, and the playback was also quite erratic. I figured no matter what dictaphone we used it would be the same if 6 or 7 people were talking to each other. This recorder records sound very clearly. I can clearly hear who is speaking. So these are no reasons not to understand correctly when someone says something. We only use a radius of about 10 feet…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Unsure

Great Pocket Dictaphone/Voice Recorder.

I bought this to replace my broken old Philips Voice Tracer. In a generation of products between the last one I bought and this one, Philips has greatly improved their product. The three microphones are even more sensitive than before, the body is much stronger polished metal, it's lighter, slimmer and the display is now in colour. an idea of what "Sensitivity Level 5" is or exactly *how* "Autozoom Sensitivity" works. The batteries are built in and cannot be removed, so they need to be charged.

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model
