The DVT8000 looks good but feels fragile. It can record in various formats, from WAV at 1.6 Mbps to MP3 at 8 Kbps. Conveniences for filtering wind noise and adjusting microphone sensitivity are useful, but the microphone is best for recording meetings. After a year of occasional use (about 10 hours total) my device refused to turn on unless connected to a charger (USB source). After a few minutes of recording, the battery died, indicating a battery problem. But the battery is built-in and not user-replaceable. A local Philips representative said such a minor consumer item was "not repairable". Revain's warranty has expired and the device is now effectively obsolete. Almost $200 down the drain. I will never buy Philips again!
