Something so simple goes so wrong.

Wow! A block of wood, some wheels and some nails. I couldn't believe how complicated this was getting. I built six cars and each had a problem, some had the same problem. axle nails; They are curled and don't go through the wheel hub very well. The nails then enter a groove designed to keep the axle straight; it's not, nails tend to tilt up whether you press (hard to do) or use a hammer. Play with the wheel/axle too much and they will start to splinter. I had to super glue the hubs on 4…

The wood is still full of moisture and the wheels are garbage

The wood is not dry enough. After drying, the blocks were slightly shorter than a typical pine derby car. Surprisingly, the blocks did not warp, twist or deform during drying. The axes are larger than the Scout Cub's axes. The wheels are not as wide and have a larger diameter than Scout wheels. These wheels also don't stay straight on their axles, so they wobble when turning. If you want a slow car and a frustrated kid, this is for you. Personally I hate buying anything from Cub Scouts or BSA…

The parts didn't fit together.

I ordered these cars for my son's 5th birthday. His older brother is in the Scouts and they both loved the Pinewood Derby. Our scout leader said we could borrow the track so I planned a great party for my son in the pine forest. We ordered this set of cars in bulk to save some money. Getting cars from scouts is expensive when you're buying for 10 kids! The blocks are fine, the wheels too. The problem was with the nails used to attach the wheels. The nails were too oily.
