I was pleasantly surprised that it measures both ID and OD! Accurate for a plastic caliper - I'd say 1/32 inch accuracy or 1/2 mm accuracy if using the metric side. This is normal for my purposes (measuring hoses and pipes). Product description says 1/128 inch accuracy - kidding. I have a few in my carpentry shop to measure wood thickness, hole depth etc. The millimeter side is easy to read but I wouldn't use a vernier scale either. Seriously. It says up to 0.05mm. If you need that kind of accuracy, get out your dial or digital caliper. On the inch side, most 1/4" and 1/2" calipers are slightly longer for easier reading. It doesn't, so it's a little harder to read. I have to count steps to know where I am. This is one of the reasons I prefer mm for comparisons etc…
