I was pleasantly surprised that it measures both ID and OD! Accurate for a plastic caliper - I'd say 1/32 inch accuracy or 1/2 mm accuracy if using the metric side. This is normal for my purposes (measuring hoses and pipes). Product description says 1/128 inch accuracy - kidding. Yes, you can use the vernier scale on this caliper for more accuracy, but it's not easy. If If you need that kind of accuracy, it's much easier to buy more expensive digital calibers.Maximum measurement is about 6"3 for $7 - it doesn't get any better than this!
