They only charge when they are sufficiently discharged. When they are at 90%, you will not see a flashing red charging light on the controllers.

Recently I tried to ask Amazon to send me 2 of these chargers but both don't work. I thought it had something to do with the connectors on the controllers themselves, but I've cleaned the metal plates on the controller that make contact with the metal pins and still no luck.

Goods arrived but didn't charge, switched to charging. When the replacement came, for some reason the controller still won't charge, or at least there's no indication that it will. An indicator light should flash to indicate the controllers are charging.

Excellent for charging 2 joycons at the same time. Out of all the versions I've seen I went with this one as it looks minimal, charges with a red flashing light and turns off when charging is complete, plugs into the outlet. I know this product has been around for a long time but I wish there was a USB option these days as most of my outlets/gaming gear is charged via Anker's 60W 6-port USB hub.
