This tool works great with the types of clamps it was designed for. The only thing that disappointed me is that it doesn't lock (keep the clip open) after the first use. It still worked better than regular pliers or vise grips for the job I bought (replacing all the coolant hoses on my truck).
I bought this to install clips in my PC's water circuit. I knew they were cheap but my use is not critical. They worked. I don't know why people complain. If you need such a set of pliers for car use, you should not buy a cheap tool. Buy Snap-On or Matco. If like me you are looking for disposable quality then buy these.
rather spend a little more and buy a pair of the proven Lisle sneakers. The tips of these pliers bend very easily and the spring lock broke after about 3 uses. Or maybe I'm just too picky about my tools, I hope this helped!

The only good thing about it is the flat tips. They almost need a fourth hand to work, which kills the whole point. There is no spring so expect the handles to move everywhere trying to grab the clamp. Then the "locking" mechanism barely holds (teeth aren't deep enough) and only locks when the mouth is held properly. I found them slightly better than regular pliers.
Pros
Slotted swivel jaw allows clip to be hooked at any angle
Useless! I don't think it's universal. None of the heads that come with the hose wrench will work with heavy duty spring clamps on any of the following vehicles: 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500, 2006 Jeep Liberty, or VW Passat. Changing the heads is also very difficult without circlip pliers; instead bought a much more useful tool at a local auto parts store. Only useful if your car's spring clips are wire, but I've never seen spring clips like this on a car anywhere. Bring back the Revain tongs.
Pros
Ratchet adjustment locks the jaws of the pliers in four different locking positions
