Good price but no replacement WF-8955

The PowerMax PM3-55 worked fine on the workbench and charged my new AGM batteries. I like that the tension is adjustable. There is a tiny switch that allows you to set the fixed voltage (set with a small trimmer next to the switch). Important note: the setting affects the voltage in each switch position (including the "normal" setting, which affects the voltages during the 3 charging phases: bulk, absorption and floating), but in any case the adjustability is a plus! the unit didn't quite fit…

Pros
  • Reverse polarity protection
Cons
  • Broken

Works great for me.

I am very happy with this unit. I bought the 55A version to replace the Magnetek 6345 (45A) converter in my 1996 Fleetwood. I pulled out the charger/converter version and added an outlet under the fridge on the side of the original. I could have cut the cord, but that was easier for me. I plan to use this to charge a few 105 amp hour AMGs and I think it will be fine for that. With my clamp meter I got over 20 amps out of the battery which I now have which is what I was expecting. When this…

Pros
  • 13.6V DC range
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Instructions are poorly written

UPDATE 12/26/19 I found a good setup guide. Disconnect the charger from the incoming AC power. There is a micro switch on one side of the charger to set the charger to "FIXED” or "3 STAGE” position. Get a flashlight and a twister (a small screwdriver, Phillips is best, a very small straight slot will work). Set the DIP switch to the fixed position. With the charger connected to the battery(s) and nothing drawing current from the batteries (this is referred to as no load) and AC power connected…

So far, so good, and in 24 months and two summers it's time for the third.

Connected at home, started and runs perfectly, fan runs only sporadically, device does not get hot even under load. I checked the voltage, everything is fine. It's a hair's breadth wider than the plug-in, but nothing that's stripped a little here and there of the ugly brown electrical box cover isn't going to take care of it. I charged the 2 big batteries I have and it idles without charging the fan and running all that stupid RV crap. I'll leave it plugged in in the heat and see how it…

  • UL and cul approved
Cons
  • Only available in white
