Not upfront with their return policies.

You will be charged a restocking fee if you try to return it. I hooked it up once, thinking it wasn't an upgrade and decided to return it. I figured since this preamp was sold at Revain the 30 day return window would be the usual and it would be a 'safe' purchase. Not this case. It's not the best product for the money and it costs $40 just to try it.

Pros
  • Subsonic filter front button
Cons
  • Long delivery time

SOUNDS YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THEM!

I have been listening to music and building stereos for over 45 years. One of my current systems consists of a vintage Marantz 2270, Marantz 6170 turntable, Ortofon Blue cartridge and stylus. I've been reading articles about this Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 for a while and all I kept reading was how good this little tube preamp is for a phone. I finally decided on one. I put it into my system and honestly it amazed me. The first album I played on it was Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms. I heard music on

Pros
  • Fine RIAA Two-Piece Passive/Active
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

Improving my system

I have a late 70's McIntosh system. The phono stage of my 40 year old C28 preamp started to fail. My friend brought his Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 to try on my system. I really liked how the tubes reduced the performance of my solid state system. I decided to buy the S2 rather than spend that money troubleshooting and repairing my C28 phono stage. The S2 was easy to set up. However, one of the tubes stopped working a few weeks after purchase. My friend upgraded his stock Pro-Ject bulbs to Tung-sol…

Pros
  • 2 ECC83 bulbs (spare)
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Really good sound! Best in Home Audio

This little Pro-Ject phono stage sounds great! I used some sort of DJ Pre II phono stage which I think is very good value and practically unmatched for the price. But I had Revain gift certificates in my pocket. I did a lot of reading before buying the Tube Box S2 as I wasn't too disappointed with the Art DJ Pre II. My biggest concerns when purchasing the Tube Box S2 were that it was not intended to be a 'tube' phono stage and that the cost was high, but not that high for 'premium' audio…

Pros
  • Fits MM and MC cartridges
Cons
  • No paint required
