I buy cases primarily to be able to hold the device better. ProCase makes a cheap iPad mini version. Apple has made the screen edges narrower. This means that users must be careful not to place a metal pad on the front screen, otherwise the screen will interpret the hold as a long press. This disables touching or tapping the screen. I bought 2 of these devices and it took about a year before they had to be replaced. Most of the time the corners start cracking and fall off after a few months and then I pull the replacement, after a year 3 corners are cracked and the case is only marginally holding up.
