Many reviewers have given this product a bad rating but that may not be fair. I bought it because it wasn't possible to get to the socket rings because the balls were too tight. Basically, I wanted to avoid having to remove the bracket from the wall to tighten the balls. The tool worked well on one of the rings but not the other two and in the end I was left with no choice but to remove the lantern. Based on other reviews I was a bit concerned if this would work for me. We bought some new glass pendant lights for our kitchen island and they were narrower than the old ones which made them almost impossible to install because I couldn't get my hand up the glass far enough to screw in the retaining ring.
