Simple product does what it's supposed to do

I installed it and am happy so far. For some reason I didn't have a narrow end clamp so after browsing youtube I saw people using zip ties so I did. So far, so good

Pros
  • Durable and flexible for years of service
Cons
  • Speed

Excellent replacement OEM

You can't go wrong with OEM. I've followed Cliffs' advice and can say that this is definitely possible without removing the output drive. A little difficult, but not bad at all. Be sure to use bellows adhesive. After the repair I threw it in the lake to check for leaks and not a single drop (the previous boot was torn). I expect this will take a while as I have a boat with a trailer. The original lasted 13 years.

Pros
  • Manufactured to Mercury Marine original equipment manufacturer specifications to provide the best possible protection for your MerCruiser power package.
Cons
  • Crumpled

Quicksilver OEM Equipment

This is one of those purchases where saving a few bucks is not a good investment. If that boot fails while boating, you could cause serious problems and incur huge repair costs. Not worth the small additional cost of a Mercruiser certified part. Aside from that, you can also replace this shift boot by disconnecting the engine side cable, attaching a strong piece of rope to the cable, and having a friend help you push the cable through while you pull on the outside of the boat. My friend and I…

You NEED an OEM for this part, even if it costs a little more.

That tough little rubber boot and stainless steel hose clamp feels overpriced. until you see what it takes to install them properly and how abysmal some of the aftermarket versions are. I bought an aftermarket kit a few years ago. The boot itself was paper thin and the stainless steel yoke wasn't entirely stainless - the strap was stainless steel, but the worm gear wasn't. (All stainless steel hose clamps are marked "All Stainless Steel". Clamps with some stainless steel parts are simply marked

Pros
  • Flexible Bellows Bellows for MerCruiser actuators with shifter cables
Cons
  • Some bugs
