Not Worth the Investment

The fisheye lens distorts images, making it difficult to get accurate readings, and the overall quality of the components is subpar. On the other hand, it's affordable, but considering the limitations of the equipment, it's just not worth it. There are better options out there for computers looking for a reliable single-board computer upgrade.

Pros
  • Wide 180-degree viewing angle captures more footage in a single frame.
Cons
  • There are new competitors

A good product. Backlit Roll Shutter Starvis Thermal Imager

Definitely the next step towards a more sensitive camera with larger pixels. It is based on one of Sony's ideal thermal imaging cameras. This is Starvis, a family of backlit sensors. Since I am connecting it to a Digilent Development Board (Xilinx SoC), I would like to have all 4 MIPI lanes connected to achieve the maximum frame rate. A global shutter is preferable, but a rolling shutter will do, especially at such a low price. The main disadvantage is that you cannot get a data sheet for theโ€ฆ

This is not a Plug and Play RPi Camera

This camera module will not function as a "fake" or "clone" of a Raspberry Pi compatible camera. You need to compile and install the driver, and the driver depends on the Linux kernel version you are currently using. They claim to be open source but I couldn't find the source code. The camera works, but the command line is required to create photos and videos. It is not available through raspistill, raspivid, or through pythons picamera. I would not recommend this camera for beginners.

Pros
  • Computers and Accessories
Cons
  • Expensive Insurance
