I just replaced my original check valve with this one and was amazed at the transformation. Our drain pump is under our bedroom so it's easy to hear. We lived with the noise for many years until we replaced the pump about 2 years ago. The noise was drastically reduced, but you could still hear a slight gurgle when the pump started and a double tap of the check valve when the pump shut off. But vertically the force of the pump at the bottom should push the valve, which I haven't measured, at least 5 pounds if not more. wow! Just wow! This check valve is incredibly quiet. I have a main drain pump and a backup pump. I have a check valve on each. It was made by a different company and looked different - black with a separate cylindrical side chamber facing up. It's been said to be "quiet," but it's not.
