I bought these to put under the trees when I water them. works perfectly. Yes, they would make an excellent tarp for transplanting. Corners snap together to keep dirt or water out of anything.

I like the size, it covers a lot of space, the material is dense. If you snap the corners together they won't hold their shape but they will help with the grip. This leaves enough space for pots and soil.

My wife ordered these things and if she asked me I would talk her out of it. We have a pot, so why she needs it I don't know. If you don't have another place to transplant, this isn't a bad idea. The corners fold down to form a sort of drip tray, but it's not stable. Any attempt to pick it up will deform the tray and things will end. It's best to think of it as a rag that you ball up to collect and then throw the stuff away.
