Easy to program and very low power consumption

I used it for HMI visualization in combination with ESP8266. Partial update for quick screen changes. Full update for new screens.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

7.5 inch black and white screen

This display is good and the code example was enough to get you started fairly quickly. But with the Raspberry Pi Zero W, it takes about 35 seconds to refresh the screen. 30 to press the image button, then about 5 to actually refresh, at which point it flashes in reverse video for a moment. I wouldn't recommend this for something live or constantly updated. Support told me it should be faster from 3B+, but I haven't tested it.

Pros
  • Excellently done
Cons
  • disappears

Easy to set up, easy to use.

Very easy entry. I don't use standard Linux on my Pi3s. I rolled my own with Yocto but this hat from ePaper was very easy to use. Within an hour I had the bcm2835 library and WaveShare C demo code up and running and showing the current values of my solar system in the barn. I will definitely buy more of these.

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Expandable

This display is good and the sample code was enough to get you started fairly quickly. But with the Raspberry Pi Zero W, it takes about 35 seconds to refresh the screen. 30 to push the image there, then about 5 to actually update it, during which time it briefly flashes in reverse. I wouldn't recommend this for something live or constantly updated. Support told me it would be faster from 3B+ onwards should, but I didn't check that.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • There are cons

Received a defective block.

The device does not work via Arduino (with Waveshare shield) or on RPi, using Waveshare's native readme and Git project only results in the screen showing C- APIs persistent or empty. I'm very upset that it didn't work, I was looking forward to a good e-paper ad. Edit: I found that the device actually works with python bindings. So while only 1/3 of the demos work correctly for this, I can at least rule out that the hardware is bad. 3/5 stars.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Not everything fits
