Love this thing, goes with inverters

I travel a lot and was looking for something similar to make tea and/or instant coffee in the car. I didn't expect much. In fact, I didn't even expect it to work. But in the end I loved it. It's pretty straight forward. You pour some water into a pitcher, seal and secure it, and then plug it into your cigarette lighter. After about 15-20 minutes the water will be hot enough to make tea or coffee. I've used it many times and haven't had any problems with it so far. I've only used it while the…

Pros
  • Auto shut off
Cons
  • High price

Good water heater for coffee etc.

When I rode an 18 wheeler a few years ago I always had one of these RoadPro water heaters with me. They work great. The only downside is that they don't last as long as we would like - from several months to a year, and then the connector overheated and one of the internal contacts melted. I used to buy replacement 12v plugs from Radio Shack and plugged them into the power cord. It also depends on how often you use it. Have fun on wheels a few times a year and it will likely last for many years

Pros
  • Plugs straight into the cigarette lighter
Cons
  • Older model

Live up to the reviews but wish the lid opening was better tuned.

Used for the first time today. Took it on the boat to make coffee. I read the reviews before buying but never read anything about the tight fit on the plastic cover you see on the left. I'm worried about two things. If I break the plastic when I try to pull it out a little to lift the lid OR open it with a tight lid, I spill hot water on myself. If there is no production - think about the best locking mechanism. Otherwise, this product lives up to the reviews. It took me about 15-20 minutes to…

Since it worked so well, I bought him instant oatmeal and a mug.

My husband is a truck driver so I bought it so he can heat water for a cup of coffee. It takes about 45 minutes. to bring it to a boil. So what it does is attach it to the back of the passenger seat and plug it in. When he knows he's going to stop for the night, he turns on the knob so he has boiling water for his coffee tea when he stops. Since it worked so well, I bought him instant oatmeal and a bowl of soup. He said it works perfectly. He turns it on an hour earlier, and when he stops, he…

  • Holds up to 20 oz.
Cons
  • I don't really like it, it's ok

Yes, it boils water. BUT.

I've been using it for a few weeks now and it's still working fine, but I have to say I don't like the design at all. Firstly, the lid isn't waterproof so water can squirt out if you try to use it while driving, and the narrow bottom makes it prone to tipping, which is a very bad combination. (We added Velcro strips to the underside of the base, which worked very well to prevent it from tipping over.) Then, once you've got the water up to the right temperature, good luck pouring it out without…
