Good performance at a low price

That's pretty much what I expected. Thanks to Sony's ability to work at ISO 1600 without excessive pixel noise, f/6.3 never clipped even in very cloudy conditions, and I was able to use fast shutter speeds to avoid jitter. Harder to focus than I expected; I haven't mastered Sony's focus assist yet, but you'll need something bigger than your eye to get a high percentage of shots in focus, especially when a quick response is required. Light and compact as expected.

Very good but with a few flaws

You should know that the aperture is not adjustable at all - it's fully open at f/6.3 and fully closed at f/6.3. The bokeh with this lens is amazing - it makes donut rings - a very cool and unique look if you find the right application. Finding a nice focus point was difficult on a tripod and in live view (Canon M3). The depth of field is incredibly shallow. Just take a few pictures and not much will come of it. The ones that come out will have a unique look that will make you glad you woreโ€ฆ

A good telephoto whatever it is

Good telephoto as it is. The build quality is very good, it is compact and has a lens hood. I've been very happy with the image quality of this lens on my EOS M, but if you're thinking about it, make sure you know exactly what you're buying. This is a manual focus SLR (reflex) lens and has the same problems as other lenses of this type. Focusing isn't always easy, depth of field is very shallow, handheld photography can be tricky (preferably with a tripod), and a busy background creates theโ€ฆ

Great lens and ideal for travel

We picked up this lens at an amazing price and took this lens on a recent trip with the Fuji xt1 and were very happy with the results. I also have Canon gear but I hate lugging around a 400mm camera and it's a lot smaller and lighter. The aperture doesn't change, but I never change my 5.6 so it didn't matter. There's no autofocus, which isn't too bad, but it can make focusing a bit slower. Even if my larger lens were easier to carry, I certainly would. I like the look of this lens, especiallyโ€ฆ

Good SLR Lens: Camera and Photo

I've read positive and negative reviews about SLR lenses in general. I decided to try this, the cheapest way to get to 300mm with Micro 4/3. This is manual focus and fixed aperture. It turns out to be easy to use. I think "record without lens" was already checked. So all I had to do was set the aperture priority to f/6.3. There are several ways to zoom in to help with manual focus. I like the left button on the controller and then the center (on my Panasonic G10 this may be different on otherโ€ฆ

Compact but long range

This is a good compact telephoto lens option for Sony NEX cameras. I use mine on the A6000. If allowed, my rating would be 3.5 stars. It has all the ins and outs of a well made SLR lens. Pros: It's small. It's about the same size as the Zeiss 16-70 but much lighter. Pinning focus can also produce great results. Dogs and geese - full face but the kestrel is removed - extreme crop. The bad: Most of the bad things about SLR lenses in general are just a fact. Firstly, the lens has a manual focusโ€ฆ

Difficult but useful, great price and size

If you're ready for what you get, this is a great lens. It won't take the sharpest images, it's very difficult to use handheld, and it has a surprisingly shallow depth of field - all of which means you'll have to focus very carefully and take a lot of shots to get a good one. If your subject moves even half a foot in ten steps, it's out of focus. But when you get it, maybe a shot out of five, it works great. I still like fun little donuts; if you don't like them, you have to be careful with the
