Heavy, hard and completely wrong product photo

Just received, need to upgrade later. First impression: 1) HEAVY! This lens makes the NEX-6 I mounted it on look like a feather. 2) Sharp if you have the right focus, which is pretty easy with peak focus, but right now I'm pretty slow with manual focus. Does practice make perfect? 3) The product photo is totally wrong. There is a long 30mm extension between the aperture ring and the mount itself. Presumably because the lens was designed for that extra distance in DSLRs.

  • Trial version for one year

It's funny really scary

It's funny really scary but I showed my girlfriend what shots of night stars I can get with this lens. It was on a tripod on my Mazda 3, no kidding, she went to show me something on her phone while the shutter was still on for a 30 second exposure and the intervalometer cable was stuck and my Nikon lens fell to the ground first. My heart sank like a brick in water. I looked at my lens and the fixed lens hood chipped off the hood just half an inch without damaging the camera or the front of the…

There are things I like about this lens

There are things I like about this lens and there are things I don't like. If you want a wide-angle lens, this one looks fantastic. I had more trouble focusing with this model than any other Rokinon Cine (I have a 14, 24, 35 and 65) but when it's sharp it's great. I struggle mostly with night shots and the lack of bokeh to define the plane of focus is probably one of my issues. won't be at all. I also notice a lot more digital noise on video with this lens compared to the same ISO/aperture on…

Heavy duty photo and video lens

WOW! Great lens at a great price. Could this be true Can you buy a cinema lens for a few hundred dollars and still expect/get a decent age? That was my question, even after researching the Rokinon and this 14mm lens in particular before making the purchase. Now that I have it in my hands and on my Sony a7 I can say that I am absolutely satisfied. Age quality is excellent. Is that the best I've ever seen? No not at all. But then I compare "best" to lenses that cost 5-10 times more. There can be…

Good quality lens (if you can get a good one)

Hello! Optimum focusing is quite difficult with this lens. You really need to open the lens to T3.1 or F2.8 to get focus. Then you can stop and adjust the camera settings for the shot you want. This is a fairly awkward way of guaranteeing focus but is necessary as the depth of field is so great at full stop it can be a quick guess in good light but note the distance markings on the lens are completely wrong, I have lens labels for marking printed the correct focus distance. It's much nicer to…

Exceptional value!

I am very happy with this lens! I currently have several Rokinon/Samyang lenses. You are of great value. This 14mm is my second. The first was a photo version, and there was a bug in it. It focused on a significant backlash. So I sent it back (from another mail order company) and got the film version here on Revain. It doesn't have any problems, except that finding the perfect point of focus can be a bit tricky. However, the final image is very sharp. These extremely short lenses tend to be…
